Move over sweet potato fries, there’s a new star in town…. Sweet potato spirals! And it’s even healthier! Sweet potatoes has long been regarded as a much healthier alternative to regular potatoes. Maybe that’s because it’s high in antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, and is an excellent source of potassium, manganese and fibre. Or maybe it’s because unlike most  starchy veggies, sweet potatoes contain complex carbs which won’t spike your blood sugar. Saute them up until they’re al dente or bake them to a crisp….. whatever you choose we’re sure you’re going to love this new spin to the classic sweet potato.                

COOKING INSTRUCTIONS

[QUICK AND EASY METHOD] 

HEAT SKILLET OVER MEDIUM-HIGH HEAT. ADD 2 TEASPOONS OF OIL OR COAT WELL WITH COOKING SPRAY AND SAUTE SPIRALS WITH A PINCH OF SALT FOR 5-6 MINUTES OR TO DESIRED LEVEL OF TENDERNESS.

 

[SWEET POTATO CURLY FRIES]

PREHEAT OVEN TO 425F. IN A LARGE BOWL COAT SWEET POTATO SPIRALS WITH 2 TEASPOONS OF OIL [USE HANDS TO TOSS SPIRALS MAKING SURE THEY’RE EVENLY COATED]. LINE BAKING TRAY WITH PARCHMENT PAPER AND EVENLY SPREAD SPIRALS. BAKE FOR 12-15 MINUTES.  

TIPS AND TRICKS

1]  Use olive oil instead of regular vegetable oil to add some healthy omega 3’s

2]  To prevent sweet potato spirals from clumping or sticking together use thongs to saute. 

3]  Coat skillet with cooking spray instead of oil to further lower calories and prevent sticking.  } 

4]  Make your rice/pasta meals healthier by replacing all or a portion of those simple carbs with sweet potato spirals. The complex carbs from the sweet potatoes will give you sustained energy without spiking your blood sugar.
